Ryan Douglas

Ryan Douglas is an Associate Director of Product and Strategy on the Deerfield Intelligence team and joined the firm in 2025. Previously, Mr. Douglas was on the founding team of Aegis Ventures, a Healthcare-AI-focused venture studio launched in partnership with Northwell Health, most recently as a Director. Before Aegis, Mr. Douglas served as an Associate at APL Group, a global private investment firm. He began his career as an Investment Banking Analyst at Evercore Partners in New York. Mr. Douglas graduated summa cum laude from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Economics.

Nicolas Jbeyli

Nicolas Jbeyli is Head of Strategy and Operations for the Deerfield Intelligence team and joined the firm in 2025. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Jbeyli worked at Boston Consulting Group for over seven years in roles of increasing responsibility, most recently as Principal. Before Boston Consulting Group, he worked at Booz Allen Hamilton for over two years as a consultant. Mr. Jbeyli started his career as an intern at the European Council for Nuclear Research. He holds a M.S. in Computer Engineering with AI concentration from Saint Joseph University.

Mark Michalski, M.D.

Mark Michalski, M.D., is Chief Information Officer and joined the Firm in 2024. As CIO, Mark leads the Deerfield Intelligence team and is responsible for overseeing the expansion and launch of new software and AI enabled products and services and supporting related capabilities for portfolio companies. Dr. Michalski concurrently serves as Chief Executive Officer at Ascertain, a technology company specializing in AI-driven automation solutions for healthcare enterprises. Before this, Dr. Michalski led strategic business development for Amazon’s healthcare and life sciences business units. He also served as Founding Executive Director of Mass General Brigham AI (formerly the Center for Clinical Data Science). Earlier in his career, Dr. Michalski served as President and Chief Medical Officer at Butterfly Network (NYSE: BFLY) and Chief Medical Officer at Hyperfine Research (NASDAQ: HYPR). Dr. Michalski holds a B.S. in Cybernetics from University of California, Los Angeles, a M.D. from Stanford University School of Medicine, and completed residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Michalski is certified by the American Board of Radiology and holds a medical license in New York State.

Jinho Jang, Ph.D.

Jinho Jang, Ph.D., is a Director, Quantitative Research, in the Deerfield Institute and joined the Firm in 2024. Prior to Deerfield, Dr. Jang was a Trading Quantitative Researcher for Brevan Howard for more than a year. Before Brevan Howard, he was a Senior Quant Analyst for UBS for more than five years. Dr. Jang has also held positions with J.P. Morgan, Citigroup, and Bloomberg L.P. Dr. Jang holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Mathematics in Finance from New York University and a B.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Seoul National University.

Marisa Oppenheim

Marisa Oppenheim is a Director, Engineering, in the Deerfield Institute and joined the Firm in 2022. Prior to Deerfield, Ms. Oppenheim was a Software Engineer at Tempus Labs. Before that, she was a Software Engineer for Domio and a Platform Support Engineer for Novus Partners, Inc. Ms. Oppenheim holds a B.A. in Accounting and Economics from The City University of New York’s Macaulay Honors College.

Iris Chen

Iris Chen is a Research Manager, Data Analytics in the Deerfield Institute. Ms. Chen joined the Firm in 2021 as a Fellow. Ms. Chen holds a B.A. in Mathematics from The City University of New York’s Macaulay Honors College.

Paul Quigley

Paul Quigley is a Software Engineer in the Deerfield Institute and joined the Firm in 2022. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Quigley spent seven years as a Software Engineer at MIK Fund Solutions and more than two years as a Software Engineer at Street Systems. Before that, Mr. Quigley spent a year at Indus Capital Partners as a Technology Analyst, a year at Pali Capital as a Software Engineer, two years at NorthPoint Solutions as a Consultant, two years at Verified Person as a Software Engineer, four years at MasterCard as a Senior Developer and three years at USIternetworking as an Integration Specialist. Mr. Quigley holds a B.A in Information Technology with Marketing from University of Paisley in the United Kingdom.

Ric Kaspar

Ric Kaspar is a Senior Director, Engineering, in the Deerfield Institute and joined the Firm in 2020. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Kaspar was a Senior Software Developer at the New York Blood Center and a Senior Software Developer with NHS Improvement in London. Before his time with the NHS, he was a Senior Development/Analyst with Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles. Mr. Kaspar holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and Finance from Bond University in Australia.

Richard Balmir

Richard Balmir is an Application Developer in the Deerfield Institute and joined the Firm in 2020. Immediately prior to joining Deerfield, Mr. Balmir spent five years at Sandler O’Neill & Partners as a Lead Software Developer. Prior to his position at Sandler O’Neill, Mr. Balmir worked at Annaly Capital Management as a Financial Software Developer. He began his career at Lockheed Martin Corporation. Mr. Balmir holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from SUNY New Paltz and a M.S. in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University.

Alexander Ashavsky

Alex Ashavsky is a Managing Director, Data Science and Engineering, in the Deerfield Institute and joined the Firm in 2018. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Ashavsky worked at MediaRadar as a Senior Software Engineer. Before that, he spent four years at iHeartMedia as a Senior Software Engineer. He was previously a Business Intelligence Consultant at Sky IT Group. Mr. Ashavsky started his career at TransPerfect Legal Solutions. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics from New York University and an M.S. in Operations Management and Analytics from Stanford University.
