Timothy Leahy

Timothy Leahy is a Partner on the Healthcare Services team and joined the Firm in 2022.  Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Leahy spent three years at Concord Health Partners as a Partner and a year at BelHealth Investment Partners as a Managing Director.  Before these roles, he spent nearly 19 years at Goldman Sachs in roles of increasing responsibility, including as a portfolio manager in Goldman Sachs Asset Management and as a healthcare analyst in Goldman’s Global Investment Research.  Mr. Leahy holds a B.S. in Business Administration from University of Richmond. 

Talia Askowitz

Talia Askowitz is a Principal on the Healthcare Services team and provides research and analysis on early stage and growth stage investments in healthcare technology and services companies. Ms. Askowitz joined the Firm in 2020 as a Fellow. She holds a B.A. in Human Biology from The City University of New York’s Macaulay Honors College. 

Stephen Anastos

Stephen Anastos is a Principal on the Healthcare Services team and joined the Firm in 2020 to focus on early and growth stage investments in healthcare technology and services companies. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Anastos served on the Leadership Team of Medicaid in Massachusetts (MassHealth) and led MassHealth’s Accountable Care Organization program. Representing over $5 billion of annual spend and covering approximately 900,000 members, the ACO program is Massachusetts’ largest effort to transition the Medicaid delivery system towards value-based reimbursement. Before MassHealth, Mr. Anastos was a Principal at Bain Capital Ventures, where he worked on early and growth stage investments in healthcare, B2B software and consumer technology. In 2017, he was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for Venture Capital. Prior to Bain, Mr. Anastos was an Associate at Blueprint Health, an incubator of digital health companies in New York, and began his career at Altman Vilandrie & Company, a technology-focused strategy consulting firm. He holds an A.B. in History with a minor in Economics from Harvard University, where he wrote his thesis on the creation of Medicare and Medicaid.

Bharath Ganesan

Bharath Ganesan is a Principal on the Healthcare Services team and joined the Firm in 2018 to focus on healthcare software and services. Before Deerfield, Mr. Ganesan was a Senior Associate at JH Whitney Capital Partners. Prior to that, Mr. Ganesan was an Associate at H.I.G. Capital, a mid-market buyout fund, and before then he worked as an investment banking analyst in the mergers and acquisitions group for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Mr. Ganesan holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Vanderbilt University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and received his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Health Care Management.

Adam Grossman

Adam Grossman is a Partner on the Healthcare Services team and joined the Firm in 2017 to work on structured transactions in the healthcare services and healthcare information technology space. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Grossman worked at The Advisory Board Company, where he spent approximately five years as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Operations. Prior to The Advisory Board Company, he spent four years at Health Evolution Partners, a leading healthcare-focused private equity firm based in San Francisco. Mr. Grossman also spent more than five years at Aetna where he worked on enterprise strategy and founded its internal venture fund. Mr. Grossman holds an A.B. in Government from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Julian Harris, M.D.

Julian Harris, M.D., is an Operating Partner on the Healthcare Services team at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2019. Dr. Harris works with a variety of health care services and technology companies that are both current and potential investment partners. He is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ConcertoCare, a leading tech-enabled, value-based care provider of at-home comprehensive care for seniors with unmet health, behavioral and social needs. Before Deerfield, Dr. Harris was the founding President of CareAllies, Cigna’s family of multi-payer provider services and home-based care businesses. Previously, he led US Strategic Operations for Cigna and managed a $500M internal investment portfolio focused on technology and innovation. Dr. Harris was also an Adviser to Google Ventures (GV) focused on health care services. Before GV, he led the health care team in the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). As the federal government’s chief health care finance official, he oversaw a $1 trillion budget and provided management and policy oversight for a range of programs, including Medicare, Medicaid, FDA, NIH and CDC. He also served as the chief executive of the $11 billion Massachusetts Medicaid program. Dr. Harris trained in internal medicine and primary care at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital and practiced as a hospitalist at Cambridge Health Alliance and as a clinical consultant for the digital second opinion company, BestDoctors (acquired by Teladoc). He graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Health Policy & Medical Ethics from Duke University and holds an M.Sc. from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. He is also a graduate of the Wharton School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine, where he currently serves as an Adjunct Professor. Dr. Harris is a trustee of the New York Academy of Medicine and a member of the advisory board for the Leonard Davis Institute for Health Economics at Penn.

Kevin Berg

Kevin Berg is a Senior Advisor on the Healthcare Services team and joined the Firm in 2005. Mr. Berg provides extensive research and analysis on individual companies operating in the healthcare industry. Prior to Deerfield, he was at Credit Suisse First Boston, where he was a Director in the Equity Research Department covering companies in the healthcare services sector. Before that, Mr. Berg was a Managing Director in the Equity Research Department at First Albany, where he also focused on healthcare services stocks. He began his career in healthcare research at Oscar Gruss. Mr. Berg holds a B.A. in Economics from Washington University, a J.D. from the UCLA School of Law, and is a CFA charterholder.

Leslie Henshaw

Leslie Henshaw is a Partner on the Healthcare Services team and joined the Firm in 2005. She works with a variety of healthcare services and healthcare information technology companies that are both current and potential investment partners. Before Deerfield, Ms. Henshaw was co-manager of an ING branded healthcare hedge fund she launched in 2000. Prior to that she spent eleven years in the investment banking, high yield research and equity research departments at Furman Selz and ING, where she focused exclusively on companies in the healthcare arena. In these roles Ms. Henshaw developed wide ranging experience in executing M&A transactions, structuring debt and equity financings for both public and private companies and analyzing company potential through the lens of public investors. She also spent two years as a member of the national healthcare consulting practice of Price Waterhouse. Ms. Henshaw graduated with High Honors with a B.A. in Economics from Wesleyan University, and earned her M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Vincent Mellet

Vincent Mellet is a Partner on the Healthcare Services team and joined the Firm in 2016. Mr. Mellet provides extensive research and analysis on individual companies operating in the healthcare industry. Prior to Deerfield, he worked at Antipodean Advisors where he was responsible for investments across global healthcare. Before Antipodean, Mr. Mellet was a Partner at PFM covering companies in the healthcare services sector. Mr. Mellet started his career in equity research at Morgan Stanley and prior to PFM was an analyst at American Express and Duquesne Capital Management. He holds a B.S. in Economics from Pennsylvania State University.
