Rachel Chapin

Rachel Chapin is an Executive Assistant supporting the Academic Outreach team at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2020. Prior to Deerfield, Ms. Chapin spent five years at Tiger Global Management, first as a receptionist and then as an Executive Assistant supporting a four-person investment team. Ms. Chapin holds a B.A. in International Relations and Global Studies from Lehigh University.

Elliot Press

Elliot Press is a Partner on the Investment and Legal teams at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2016 to work on structured transactions for the Deerfield Funds. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Press was a Partner in the corporate department at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, where he practiced for 20 years. At Katten, he represented investors and issuers in various public company investment transactions, IPOs, mergers and acquisitions and other securities-related transactions and advised investors and issuers on various securities law-related issues. Mr. Press received a B.A. from Yeshiva University, a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and an M.B.A. from Fordham Graduate School of Business Administration.

Lawrence Atinsky

Lawrence Atinsky is a Partner on the Investment and Legal teams at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2013 to focus on structuring investments in Deerfield’s Private Design and Special Situations Funds and providing legal support to the Deerfield Institute and other Deerfield Funds. Mr. Atinsky has over 19 years of experience structuring and negotiating public and private financings, strategic transactions and licensing arrangements involving healthcare companies. Prior to joining Deerfield, Mr. Atinsky served as a Partner and General Counsel of Ascent Biomedical Ventures, a leading venture capital firm investing in healthcare companies. Since 2000, he has been the General Counsel of several private companies in the healthcare industry and is actively involved in the operations of many early stage companies. Mr. Atinsky began his career as an associate in the Mergers & Acquisitions department at the law firm of Skadden Arps LLC. He holds a B.A. with high distinction from the University of Wisconsin and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Robert Snetiker

Robert Snetiker is Compliance Officer and Assistant Counsel at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2015 to assist with various aspects of the compliance program, with an emphasis on trading compliance and related regulatory filings. Before Deerfield, Mr. Snetiker worked as a consultant at The Regulatory Fundamentals Group (RFG), a New York-based firm that helps asset managers address regulatory and legal requirements. At RFG he assisted firms in staying current with evolving regulations and understanding the impact on operations. Mr. Snetiker also performed risk assessments for investment firms and private equity clients and helped them enhance their compliance programs and policies. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.

Christopher Freeland

Christopher Freeland is Counsel, Portfolio Company Operations and joined the Firm in 2019 to provide legal support to the Deerfield Operations team. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Freeland held various roles of increasing responsibility at Aralez Pharmaceuticals, including General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer. Before Aralez, Mr. Freeland was an Associate General Counsel at American International Group. He began his legal career as a corporate associate at the law firm of Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. Prior to law school, Mr. Freeland was an investment banking analyst at Citigroup. He received an A.B. from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.

David Clark

David Clark is a Partner and General Counsel at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2009. Mr. Clark has more than thirty years of experience as a lawyer and business executive. Prior to Deerfield, Mr. Clark spent ten years as a transactional lawyer with Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, where he led the firm’s pharmaceutical practice. Previously, he was with United Dominion Industries, a diversified manufacturing company, where he served as a legal, corporate development, and international operations officer. Mr. Clark holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.

Helena Howard

Helena Howard is an Executive Assistant on the Compliance team at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2019. Prior to Deerfield, Ms. Howard spent three years at Indus Capital Partners where she primarily supported the firm’s Legal & Compliance group. Ms. Howard received her B.S. in Psychology from Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, and her M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Yeshiva University.

Jennifer Hsieh

Jennifer Hsieh is Compliance Analyst at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2011 as a member of the Deerfield Institute, before transitioning to the Compliance group in 2017. While in the Deerfield Institute, she was responsible for arranging and overseeing paid expert interactions within the Firm. Ms. Hsieh received her B.S. in Biology from the University of Richmond and M.S. in Biology from American University. She spent two years teaching undergraduate chemistry lab during her time in graduate school. 

Marian Brancaccio

Marian Brancaccio is Associate General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2013. She has over 15 years of experience as a legal adviser to private equity funds, structured funds and investment funds and in managing their compliance with laws. Prior to joining Deerfield, Ms. Brancaccio was General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Stone Tower Capital, a leading alternative credit investment firm that was acquired by Apollo Global Management LLC. She began her career in private practice as a corporate attorney and specialized in mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and transactions. She has also been the General Counsel of a leveraged buyout firm and of a company in the consumer products industry. Ms. Brancaccio holds a B.A. (with high distinction) from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from Columbia University School of Law.

Mark Shtilerman, Ph.D.

Mark Shtilerman, Ph.D., is Senior Counsel on the Legal team at Deerfield and joined the Firm in 2014. Dr. Shtilerman has experience counseling companies in all aspects of intellectual property procurement, enforcement and licensing. He is a technically trained patent attorney registered to practice before the USPTO. Prior to Deerfield, Dr. Shtilerman was an attorney in nationally recognized law firms, and before that, was a patent agent at a biotechnology firm. Dr. Shtilerman holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. from Fordham University, and a B.S. in Physics from St. Petersburg State University in Russia. He completed his post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
